Your privacy, plainly
Privacy policy
Perth Safe Pet exists to make buying, selling, and rehoming pets safe — for the animals and for you. Part of keeping it safe is checking that people are who they say they are. This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We follow the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
What we collect
- Account and contact details — the email address you sign up with, the contact email you attach to a listing, and the Perth suburb you list in.
- Verification information — document-based identity verification is not in operation yet, so we currently hold no ID documents of any kind. If we switch it on, the check will be run by a third-party provider: documents would go directly to that provider and we would receive only a pass or fail result and an opaque reference. We will update this policy before that changes.
- Listing information — pet details, microchip and vaccination records, and photos you choose to publish.
- Enquiry messages — content of guided enquiries between buyers and sellers.
- Technical data — basic logs (IP, device, request time) for safety and abuse prevention only.
Why we collect it
To make the platform safe: to verify people are real, to help animals reach responsible homes, to prevent fraud and welfare harm, and to comply with Australian law. We do not use your data for behavioural advertising.
Sovereign Pet
Where Perth Safe Pet stores an identity reference, it is hashed before it is written to our records — the ledger holds a one-way hash, not your account identifier. No human at Perth Safe Pet reads identity documents, because we do not collect them.
Who we share it with
- We never sell or rent your personal information.
- We share limited details with service providers (payments, verification, hosting) strictly to run the platform, under contract.
- We share with authorities where we reasonably suspect poor animal welfare or unlawful conduct, or where the law requires it.
Storage & retention
Personal information is stored on hosted infrastructure inside Australia or in countries with comparable privacy protection. We keep information only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law, then delete or de-identify it.
Your choices
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it. Email privacy@australianprivacynetwork.com.au and we will respond promptly.
Data breaches
If something goes wrong with your data, we will tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as soon as practicable, in line with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
Marketing
We only send marketing emails to people who have opted in. Every marketing email has a working, one-click unsubscribe. Transactional messages (about a listing, an enquiry, or your account) are sent regardless.
Complaints
If you are not happy with how we have handled your data, please email privacy@australianprivacynetwork.com.au first so we can try to resolve it. You can also contact the OAIC at oaic.gov.au.
